Week 6 Update: Priority Health
It is week six, right?
I'm losing track. At the start of the fifteen week program, I remember feeling like it would never end. But lo and behold, I'm nearly halfway done. Crazy how time flies, isn't it?
Well I've finally got an exciting update. Remember my original project of learning the new content management system and writing up an instructional document for fellow employees? Gone. History. Toast. Why, you may ask? Well, unfortunately, Sitecore just isn't going to be ready in time. In fact, just last week, my team leader was saying we should be getting our Sitecore training "any day now ..." but that was about seven or eight days ago.
My supervisor figured that by the time we were Sitecore implemented and trained, it would be August, and I would be just about out the door. So, onto plan B.
And just what is that? I, Madeleine Hart, Priority Health Web Experience team Intern will be creating a Web Style guide. My document design and web writing professors would be so proud, I know. What exactly does this project entail? Well, let me tell you, that as I'm writing it, I'm learning just that.
In some ways, this project goes hand in hand with the Sitecore project (RIP). But instead of focusing on how non web people can learn the new CMS, I'm now focusing on teaching them web style. This means when to use a hyperlink, what kind of text to make into a hyperlink (ie. no "click here!" links), what heading styles are approrpriate, how PH styles their web content into paragraphs, what the difference between ordered and unordered lists are ... aaaand so on and so forth. I think you get the idea.
I'm so excited to finally have a project underway. Just today, I got a lot of feedback from my supervisor on my first draft of the web style guide, as well as on some revisions I'm making to Priority's online member handbook. This was all very welcome and necessary.
Hopefully everyone is having a similar "going up" experience as far as how acclimated and comfortable they're getting. Until next time!
