Too much revision

I’m finishing up the organization description and the project description, the two main parts of the letter of inquiry for the Mott grant. I proofread and changed them a million times before I finally had to stop. That’s the thing about writing… it’s never perfect. There are always improvements you could make or ways to re-word something so it sounds just a little bit better. I have to realize that something I write is never going to be perfect, and work on determining when it’s good enough. That’s what’s hard… figuring out what’s good enough.

I let it sit for a couple days and came back to it, and I think that helped my proofreading somewhat. As I kept reading the same sentences over and over, I lost my ability to critically analyze whether they sounded right or not. It all started to sound the same.

I’ve had a lot less to work on lately, which is weird. During my first weeks at this internship, I had a lot more to work on than I do now. I have a feeling this is the calm before the storm, though, so I can’t get carried away with a deceptively relaxed week. I’m sure the workload will increase again.
