Summer Internship at United Way

Heart of West Michigan United Way Volunteer Centeris looking for a summer intern who is interested in new technology and the work of the nonprofit community and can help them move most of the event info into an on line format.  The intern will be using an event module on Volunteer Solutions, a web based volunteer matching system.  The Volunteer Solutions system  currently lists opportunities posted by 130 agencies. 

Who We Are
The Day of Caring is a volunteer event sponsored by Heart of West Michigan United Way Volunteer Center. Our goal is to mobilize volunteer efforts in the Grand Rapids area and enable corporate volunteers to connect to the community through service projects. In September 2008, over 1600 employees from more than 48 companies will assist local health and human service organizations. The internship will provide the following:
 
·        Acquaint the intern with various local nonprofit organizations and the role that United Way plays in the community
·        Provide experience regarding partnerships between area companies and nonprofit organizations
·        Provide training and meaningful work related to the Day of Caring volunteer event
·        Introduce the intern to Volunteer Solutions, an online volunteer matching system
·        Provide the intern the ability to encourage and train agencies to use new technology
·        Provide an opportunity to assist with evaluation of the Day of Caring event
 
Requirements
The person selected should have strong communication and computer skills, enjoy learning about both nonprofit and corporate organizations, and have an interest in promoting volunteerism to build a stronger community.
 
The Volunteer Center is open to adding or adjusting responsibilities according to the strengths and interests of the individual selected. The internship can also be tailored to meet the requirements established by the college or university.
