Success in the Second Week
The first two days at my site this week consisted of writing more States pieces. Writing them does get slightly tedious, but it ends up being interesting because in my research I find out about some great places! Maybe I'll visit some of them one day. It also ends up being exciting because when I get each one finished I have such a sense of accomplishment. I know that Matt goes in and tweaks them to be perfect so the finished product that gets into the magazine isn't exactly all mine, but he says that he doesn't have to change much because I'm doing really well. Which of course, makes me SO happy.
Today I was given news updates that needed editing (shortening up a little bit, editing the content) so I started on those. I finished when Matt was in a meeting, so I went over to another employee there and asked if she could use help with anything. So for the rest of the day I put together packets and stuffed them into envelopes for her. I just figured that I would make myself useful and she really appreciated it, so that was a good use of my time.
I guess I learned that I definitely know how to use my time effectively. I could've sat on my computer browsing the internet while Matt was busy, but it felt much better to help someone out.
One GREAT thing about today was that Matt told me again I was doing a great job and proceeded to tell me that sometimes interns can barely even edit well and that he's been impressed with my work. Then he told me that he's probably going to have me write a feature article for the magazine! I basically wanted to scream with excitement, but I restrained myself.
So I've had a success this week, I suppose!
Oh, and Monday morning there was an office meeting which I was also invited to. Every Monday there is a meeting and everyone goes around saying a success they've had. I simply said my success was that I was apparently doing well with the writing I've been doing so far. It was interesting to see what kinds of things are discussed in meetings like that.
Even though getting up before 9:00 is still somewhat difficult, I'm so glad to have this internship. I'll keep my fingers crossed that I feel that way at the end of every week.
