Saving GRPS from Swine Flu
Another week with the GRPS and things just seem all over the place, which could be a result of the students bringing guns to school at Creston. My supervisor has been everywhere. Meeting with different people, constantly on the phone, so I guess you can say I haven't been given any direct instructions on what I should be doing. Very briefly, he gave handed me a sheet of paper about Swine Flu and told me to create a insert for the GRPS newsletter. Its a good thing I am familiar with publisher or else I would have panicked. Basically the half page insert was to inform students on what Swine Flu is and how to prevent it from spreading it in the school districts. I had to let the parents know to keep their children at home if they're sick not to spread the germs and for the students to sneeze or cough into a tissue or their sleeve (if they can't find a tissue). This seems like common sense; however, I have to remember this is for a range of ages. Plus, parents always try to send their kids to school even if the child is deathly sick.
On Friday, I had a little more work to do. There was a big ceremonial event being held at the Caesar C. Chavez Elementary School, and I was instructed to correspond with the radio/ tv stations and press to see if a report would be attending. I also had to continue creating a list of the RSVPs for the DeVos and superintendent meeting.
I have always had the intentions to get a MFA and PhD in Creative writing, write poetry, continue with research, and be a professor at an university. I never really considered other career options until I have started this internship. I have worked in an office for the last 3 years, so I have gotten away from the retail atmosphere. However, I didn't expect that I would use my writing skills in an office (outside of typical secretary work). I actually don't mind this work. It actually gives me a sense of hope because I know there are options I can now apply for that I had no clue about before (which is sad). It was quite pleasing to read the article by Brad Connaster because he received his masters in Creative writing but manages the publications department.
