Relief is in Site
It has been a wild couple of weeks. Things would have been smooth sailing if the unexpected project hadn't taken a week out of my life. Regardless, tomorrow I will arrive at Eberhard Center around 7:15 am, get the registration table set up, do a quick training session with the student volunteers, and spend most of my day working at the Math in Action Conference.
I think when you have been with the same company for ten years and you work on the same projects year after year, you get into a rhythm that gets you through the project each year, regardless of what is thrown at you. You just learn to adapt. And every time you get on the other side of a big project, especially in the years when you have worked under adverse conditions, the feeling of satisfaction builds you up and helps to fuel you through the next project.
The down side of the past few weeks is I feel I haven't been doing much writing/proofing/editing. Now I can get back to updating the look of the Science Olympiad documents. Today we discussed either converting the InDesign documents into Word documents or creating fill-in-the-blank .pdf versions. This will be a project I can work on while I recover from foot surgery in June. It's good to know I can be productive while I am home recuperating. The work needs to be done; the location doesn't matter.
One project I would like to get started on is converting the websites over to the new CMS version. The RMSC website was reorganized a few years ago, but the organization of a few things has never felt comfortable for me. I hope to see those things changed. We have had the same look for over five years. A facelift would be a nice change.
I also have to start working on the Michigan High School Math and Science Symposium. The first task is to get the online forms live. This program gives me the greatest opportunity to work on my writing. I need to create both a program and an abstract book.
Everything in life is cyclical. We eat, we do the dishes. We go to sleep, we get up. We wind up Science Olympiad in April, we begin Science Olympiad in August.
If I didn't work, what would I do with all my time? I could blog.
