Online Arts Review/Literary Journal Internship Opportunity
Arts Review Fogged Clarity seeks Intern
Fogged Clarity is an online arts review/literary journal operating out of Chicago/Western Michigan/Brooklyn. Each month we take the finest fiction, poetry, music, visual art and scholarly thought and display it in a new issue at www.foggedclarity.com
Our past contributors and interviewees include: author TC Boyle, Pulitzer Prize finalist Bruce Smith, Joe Meno, Benjamin Percy, former assistant editor of The New Yorker, Michael Tyrell and many other dynamic creators. Within the next year we will go to print and have already received stories from Joe Meno and Benjamin Percy to appear in the edition.
Internship Opportunity
Fogged Clarity seeks a shrewd and relentless individual to be an advocate for the arts and our journal. One hears the word self-starter quite often when reading job requirements. We hate to be cliché, but that is exactly what we need. We need an asset, not a weight. We get things done and get them done efficiently. We need someone who is fully aware of the way we operate and who can acclimate and contribute quickly. It is imperative that our intern be able to meld eloquence and pragmatism in their writing, as they will be corresponding with managers, publicists, and members of our artistic community. Our ideal candidate would be a writing major with an interest and passion for marketing.
Internship duties will include:
1. Reaching out: at this point we receive roughly 8,000 visitors per month. That number needs to increase, and order to make that happen we need interviews scheduled, newspapers and radio contacted, etc. Basically we need a publicity catalyst.
2. Managing and building all of our social media networks MySpace, Facebook, twitter: these resources are invaluable for building a dedicated following. At this point we don’t have much extra time to devote to these channels; we need someone proficient and driven to do this.
3. Helping to arrange readings and interviews with authors and artists: tact, eloquence and intimacy become extremely important when arranging these. We need someone whom we can trust to represent us with integrity and candor.
4. First draft copy-editing and solicitation of submissions: our intern will be partly in charge of finding great work for the site, and reviewing that work when asked. This includes reaching out to individuals both in and outside of our community to post calls for submissions.
5. Marketing and arranging our poetry readings/concert series in West Michigan: selling tickets, spreading the word. We have a lineup of great venues to use; we just need to make sure they are full when we put on an event.
6. Weekly meetings with executive editor Benjamin Evans to be held in Muskegon, MI.
7. We would expect 10-15 hours of work per week.
There is really no limit to what we are doing and will continue to do. We need someone to be a part of our family and fight for the proliferation of beauty with all their heart.
