New Project!
I'm finally finished with my "Importance of Play" presentation. One of the employees looked at it, and said it looked great. I was a little nervous to have her look at it because I knew very little about child development when I went into the project and she's been working at the museum for five years. She had nothing to criticize about the content of it though, only minor suggestions regarding the layout of the slides.
My new project is one that I'm sharing with the other research intern. We're creating a database of other children's museums and what they have to offer in terms of exhibits. This way our museum has an easily accessible and easily navigable resource to see what's been done and how they did it. They're trying to figure out what they want to build for January of next year, so they're getting started now with research. We started looking at a couple of the bigger museums in the nation and saw some pretty fun looking exhibits, so I'm excited to see what our further research reveals.
I'm glad I get to work on this next project with a partner. Whenever we do collaborative projects in class I usually find myself groaning because I always feel like it'd just be easier, faster, and more convenient to just do it alone. Doing it alone means that I don't have to coordinate my schedule with someone else's, and that I don't have to compromise my vision of the project. This time, however, I'm glad to have someone to work with, because solitary work at the museum was starting to get a little lonely.
We've also been given other "no-brainer" tasks to do when we have down time, which is actually pretty nice. Whenever I feel like I just can't look at a computer screen for another minute, I can take a break to cut paper squares or cut out and laminate play money. It may sound weird, but I love small doses of tasks like that. They're relaxing.
