Interviews and Grants
This week I interview Sonya Hollins. I spent an hour with her taking notes and recording her responses to my questions. I haven’t listened to the recording, which I need to do fairly soon, just to make sure I got everything. I went down town to meet with her and I’m so glad she was able to drive to meet me. If I had to go to Kalamazoo, I would have had to rearrange some things and I didn’t want to put it off for much longer. The interview went really went, and I feel confident enough to start working on the article. My only problem now is planning a design scheme for the photo essay portion. It’s so wide open, I have no idea where to begin. I think will begin doing some sketches over break so that I can get that settled. I have plenty of pictures to work with and I have to look at those as well. It seems my internship is quickly having me implement some of my design knowledge. I’m glad I get to do so because now I really feel like WRT 200 paid off. I wish I had taken the other design classes. We’ll see how this goes, I think I may take some more if I like making this photo essay.
More good news for this week: The grant I wrote in the beginning of the semester for my internship paid off. We received the Summer Scholars award. It is more related to my history minor, but since I will write a paper on it for S3 and present at a conference and Student Scholarship Day, I think it’s still very relevant.
