Internship changes

This week I found out that the other intern at the company is ending her internship because she was too busy. Her primary responsibility was to deal with state and local grants, while mine was to do the federal grants. This change means that I’ll be working on some state or local grants now.

I am fine with this new arrangement. My work load won’t increase -- it will now be split between writing local grants and federal grants instead of just focusing on federal. Doing a few local grants means more experience with different types. More experience = obviously beneficial. Furthermore, I don’t have a lot of grant-writing experience yet, so local grants will probably be a little easier for me.

Having some more grant to work on now will be good I’m kind of at a standstill right now. Preparing a federal grant entails lots of registration, and right now we’re trying to wade through the registering. Plus, it goes back to what I talked about last week -- I like variety in my work. If I get tired of working on one grant, I can switch to another one. I like working on a few different things at once so I don’t get bored with one thing.

The only unfortunate thing is that now I won’t be meeting with the other intern, obviously. It would have been good to have someone to share and exchange ideas with and to work together with on a few things.

In other news, I’m feeling more confident as I learn more about grants. I was a little overwhelmed at first because the subject seemed complicated and confusing, but I’m learning and becoming more confident that I can deal with them. I’m sure this understand will only increase as my internship continues.
