Flying (a little more) Solo

In about three weeks, my direct supervisor at Priority Health will be going on a (fantastic sounding) European excursion. What's an intern to do?

Well, plenty, actually.

This weekend, my supervisor is in Chicago for an event, marking the second time she's left me unattended over the duration of my stay at Priority. Second time so far, that is. I've come to embrace my newfound independence, though, and in a lot of ways, I think she's done a good job preparing me for more solo work. A lot of times, she'll work in the building across the parking lot while I'm still at my cube. I don't mind this at all, though. I've always been more of an independent worker by nature. I know that I need some suerpvision and a lot of feedback, but when it comes down to it, I'd really rather just plug in my headphones and get into my work mode.

Lucky for me, there is always at least one person who is on the web experience team floating around that I can ask for assisstance. And good thing, too! I'm definitely growing more and more confident in the small tasks they've been assigning me, but it never hurts to double check information or procedures to ensure I don't botch a job and have to start over again. And, because they an assign "call tickets" (jobs) to me, I'm kept busy, occupied, and overall way happier than being left bored and un-busy at my desk. All in all, it's a good system.

Both of my internships have really helped me become more self motivated. I've always been a pretty intrinsically driven person, but when projects are open ended, have no exact deadline, and there isn't someone cosntantly breathing down your neck to turn stuff in, it's all up to you. Me, in this case. I'm confident in my abilities as an independently driven person, and believe the experience I've been gaining throughout these internships will go on to serve me in the future.
