Feeling more accomplished
Today, Michelle, Kiera, Ryan and I laid out the pages for the magazine!! I do not know why but it makes me feel like things are starting to come together. Maybe it’s because laying out the pages, feels like there’s some closure to my job. It means the writing is almost done and now it’s the graphic designers turn to work on the magazine. There are 6 articles left for me to work on. Some I have the information for and just need to type it up. Others I need to make some last minute interviews and revisions.
Then if I can, there are more opportunities for me to take photos. However, we may be using some from News and Information Services and Laker Nation.
I feel like I’ve already learned a lot at this internship and I am better at thinking on my toes and being able to improvise and be flexible. Also, I am better at taking criticism and at understanding that an article I may have worked very hard on could potentially be cut from the magazine. It’s still frustrating to hear that, but I cope with it better than I would have before this internship.
Michelle said she’d love to make the Do Something Guide into a writing class and have some sort of team of writers and then student editors as well. She suggested to Kiera and I that we should take on the editor role for next year’s Do Something Guide. I am interested in that, but it all depends on what other jobs/internships I may have my senior year.
All in all, today is a good week because I feel like the internship is coming to and end and even though it was a good internship, it definitely was a lot of work and I am excited to finish up my writing and see the final product!
