email delays

This week has taught me a lot about what to expect when you’re trying to coordinate a large group of people, and that’s a headache. As I mentioned in my last week’s post, I had to interview a fairly large group of people for an article I’m working on. The problem with that is that not everyone responds to email at the same rate. I’m even today just now receiving replies to stuff I sent out over a week ago.

I figured that the best way to handle the situation was to create a chart and mark when people were available as they got back to me, and that when I had a majority of the responses I needed back, to start scheduling interview times. It technically worked, but the result was that one or two people would be scheduled in the morning, and then there would be a three or four hour gap that didn’t need to be there. Overall it’s led to a week where I’ve been traveling to and from campus a lot more than I’m used to.

My writing for the week thankfully has been a bit easier, consisting of transcribing the interviews and drafting a short article about the Rapid buses.
