And so we begin...
I have been in my internship now for one and a half weeks. I have been in my current position for the last ten years. So is it possible to have an intern experience in such a situation? I think so.
The internship description and learning objectives have clearly outlined areas in my job where I can focus on writing. I have always had to do some writing but had not classified it as professional writing. The truth is, I do quite a bit of writing.
Science Olympiad (SO) is getting into high gear. This means I will be communicating with the team coaches by email. Over the years my responsibilities for SO have grown and I now am responsible for registration, self-scheduling, accounting, and web editing. Because of these duties, I have had to contact coaches for various reasons and they have become accustomed to contacting me when they have a question. There are currently seventy teams registered for the Region 12 tournament. That's a lot of emails.
This past week, though, I have been working on a different part of SO. We also have event supervisors for 23 events times two divisions. This requires forms and memos to be created or updated from the previous year. We have been using the same forms for quite a long time. This year I have given the forms an identity overhaul. The form designs were very outdated and lacked unity. I updated the look and create a fresh, professional look and a cohesive packet. Over the semester I will convert all the other forms to this new look.
I also created a brochure last week. I am especially proud of how it turned out. Normally I would have just made the data change from a preious version; however, this time I began with a Publisher flyer template and adjusted it to fit our needs.
It is empowering to utilize the design skills learned in my classes.
