Flying (a little more) Solo

Posted by hartma on Thu, 07/01/2010 - 12:57

In about three weeks, my direct supervisor at Priority Health will be going on a (fantastic sounding) European excursion. What's an intern to do?

Well, plenty, actually.

Xanga Update

Posted by hartma on Wed, 06/23/2010 - 08:39

Okay, so away from healthcare for a post, and back to the fun stuff.

The Xanga internship has continued to go smoothly. Eight posts a week sounds like a lot, but mostly they're 200-500 words, so it's really not that much. I am, however, starting to run a little dry on material, so if any of you have any dating-related anecdotes, questions, or comments that I might be able to spin into a post, I'm more than open to suggestion!

To give you an idea of what one of my posts looks like, here's the URL to what was probably my most commented on so far.

Week 6 Update: Priority Health

Posted by hartma on Wed, 06/16/2010 - 16:22

It is week six, right?

I'm losing track. At the start of the fifteen week program, I remember feeling like it would never end. But lo and behold, I'm nearly halfway done. Crazy how time flies, isn't it?

1/3 Done!

After the completion of this week, I'll officially be 1/3 done with my internship at Priority Health. Part of me thinks the time has flown, but part of me can't believe I still have another ten weeks left. Actually, when I put it that way, it seems like an eternity.

Internship Update 6-3

Since I spent a lot of time detailing my work at Priority Health, I think I'll take a break and give an update on my Xanga.com internship.

Internship Update: The First Three Weeks

Posted by hartma on Mon, 05/24/2010 - 12:21

It's now my third week working at Priority Health. The first week was a blur, and truthfully a bit of a nightmare,

but I'm finally getting into the swing of things. I had a few lightbulb moments last week that helped me affirm to

myself "Okay, maybe I am starting to understand why I'm here." The way I see it -- things can only go up.

Starting any new job is always a difficult and often trying task. For me, this was made more difficult from the fact

that I know nothing about health care, health insurance, or the jargon of the field. Slowly but surely, though, I'm

My Internships

Posted by hartma on Tue, 05/18/2010 - 16:31

I'm actually working two internships this summer, both dealing with very different fields.

The first is what I call my "legitimate" internship, and it's working for Priority Health 40 hours a week. I'm part of their web experience team, and as such, and helping them transition all of their website content over to a new content management system.

Internship don'ts & thinking technologically

It's now week two of my internship at Priority Health, so admittedly, I was a little nervous when I began the "Top 10 Goofs" article. But in a way, the article proved somewhat more useful, as my prior week of work experience gave me the grounds to perform a little self-evaluation.

1. The Entitlement Syndrome: No problems here, tardiness and slacking off are just not something I do. (Well, not on a professional level, anyway) Though I will say that 8:30-5 five days a week has made afternoons drag and coffee my new beverage of choice.
